The question that has been swirling around together with a clarion call for Blade Nzimande to resign in the face of the ongoing NSFAS crisis is: What has the minister been doing while a rudderless NSFAS ran aground in stormy seas under his watch?, writes Prega Govender.

A student who has been provisionally funded by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and is desperate to buy books; others who have had their application for financial assistance rejected despite qualifying for it; and those who have been going hungry because their allowances have not been paid.

These are the countless, heart-wrenching stories of frustrated students, and they have almost become a daily refrain.
