Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena made a bold promise to the club’s supporters: if they allow him to, at the very least, see out his four-year contract, he will deliver the CAF Champions League quicker than it took Pitso Mosimane.

‘Jingles’ is the image that Sundowns’ success is built on. The three-time African champion inherited an expensive mess in 2012 when he took over from Dutch great Johan Neeskens, who was chased out of the club by Sundowns’ supporters.

The Brazilians were second from bottom after picking up two wins from 12 league games, their worst start in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) era, when Mosimane was brought to put out the fires.
