South Africa’s limited grid capacity is one of the biggest risks to the renewable energy industry, and Eskom can’t solve the problem on its own, according to Jan Oberholzer, chairperson of renewable energy developer Mulilo Energy Holdings.

Oberholzer was previously chief operations officer for Eskom – and worked at the power utility for more than 30 years before he joined Mulilo in September last year.

Speaking to News24 alongside newly appointed Mulilo CEO Jan Fourie in an interview on Thursday, Oberholzer expressed concerns that there is a lack of urgency in addressing grid constraints.
