When legendary Bafana Bafana striker Shaun Bartlett shed tears of joy after guiding Cape Town Spurs back to the DStv Premiership via the 2023 Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) promotion/relegation play-offs, there was a sense of relief in his choice of words that day in Pietermaritzburg.

“We have been toiling in this (national first) division for five long years, and we deserve our place in the DStv Premiership,” a tearful Bartlett said under the Harry Gwala Stadium floodlights after being drenched in water by the Spurs players during their celebrations.

“When unwavering dedication is coupled with hard work, success is not a matter of luck or chance, but an inevitable outcome. Today, our diligence has been duly rewarded.”
