Unisa vice-chancellor Puleng LenkaBula has placed the university’s
acting chief financial officer (CFO) on precautionary suspension for, among
other things, allegedly receiving bank deposits from students in an irregular
manner.

This is
despite the fact that Reshma Mathura informed LenkaBula that “four
unexpected and unsolicited cash deposits” of R330 each were deposited into
her bank account and that “this malicious and criminal conduct” was
intended to slander her and remove her from her position.

In a letter
dated 3 April 2024, which was written to LenkaBula on Mathura’s behalf,
AfriForum’s advocate Gerrie Nel said the individuals who made the deposits to
Mathura “are unknown to her and certainly had no reason to deposit money
into her account”.
