Former deputy chief justice, Dikgang Moseneke, will join the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Bench to hear South Africa’s “genocide” case against Israel next Thursday.

A high-powered team of South African lawyers is lined up for the first day of hearings at the Peace Palace in the Hague, where they will ask the ICJ to declare that Israel is guilty of genocide and immediately cease the killing of Palestinians.

Advocate Adila Hassim, SC, will begin South Africa’s oral arguments for the Presidency, leading the team of South African lawyers who will have 15 minutes each to address the court. She will be followed by fellow senior counsel, John Dugard, Max du Plessis, and Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, who will spell out South Africa’s case. They will be supported by a team of junior counsel, external counsel and legal teams from other countries.
