The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is going ahead with inquests into 10 killings in two incidents that occurred in the Eastern Cape in 1993. 

The first incident, on 1 May 1993, took place at the Highgate Hotel in East London where unknown gunmen opened fire and killed Deric John Whitfield, Deon Harris, Douglas Gate, Boyce Michael Wheeler, and Stanley Hacking.

Seven others were injured in the attack.
