Cape Winelands firefighters are battling a blaze that is burning out of control in Du Toit’s Kloof.

Cape Winelands District Municipality spokesperson Jo-Anne Otto said the fire, which started opposite the Du Kloof Lodge near Paarl, has continued to burn into the cliffs in the direction of the Huguenot Tunnel.

“All roads are currently open. However, fire services request that motorists travel with caution, not to stop and take photographs, and to follow the instructions of traffic officials,” Otto said.

She added that seven firefighting vehicles and crews were currently on the ground, as well as three teams from NCC Wildfires and CapeNature.

Otto said on Tuesday that the fire was burning in old veld and was being closely monitored, adding that fire services were protecting a few small structures in the area as a precautionary measure.
