Legendary South African boxer Dingaan Thobela, known to his fans as the ‘Rose of Soweto’, has died aged 57.

Thobela was the WBO lightweight champion from 1990 till 1992 and was crowned WBA champion in the same weight class in 1993. In 2000, he won the WBC super-middleweight title.

A Boxing SA representative confirmed his death to News24 on Monday evening.
