Who is Orlando Pirates’ top DStv Premiership goal scorer this season?

Orlando Pirates are enjoying a memorable 2023/2024 season, thanks in many ways to their prolific form in front of goal.

The Buccaneers have found the back of the net on 41 occasions in 26 DStv Premiership matches to date this season.

That number is second in the 16-team league, behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns’ 47 goals.

Orlando Pirates earlier in the season won the MTN8 title and have reached the final of the Nedbank Cup.

They are currently third in the DStv Premiership and occupy a CAF Confederations Cup spot.

They will be pushing to ‘upgrade’ that to a CAF Champions League place in their four remaining matches.

Leading scorer

But who has been responsible for Orlando Pirates’ league goals?

As the time of publishing, Tshegofatso Mabasa is the Soweto giants’ leading scorer.

However, not all of Mabasa’s 13 league goals this season have come for the Buccaneers as he scored six while still on loan at Swallows in the early part of the season.

Despite that, his seven goals for Orlando Pirates still makes him the deadliest goal scorer for the Buccaneers this season.

Patrick Maswanganyi and Evidence Makgopa, meanwhile, each boast five goals this league campaign.

Last season’s Golden Boot

Mamelodi Sundowns‘ Namibian star Peter Shalulile and Cape Town City FC’s Khanyiso Mayo proved last season to be the deadliest DStv Premiership strikers in the country with 12 goals apiece.

No will break – or come even close – to the all-time PSL record of 25 goals held by Zambia’s Collins Mbesuma while playing for Kaizer Chiefs in the 2004/05 season.
