US reiterates its belief countries may choose their partners amid BRICS growth

JOHANNESBURG – As the BRICS family grows in hopes of strengthening the influence of developing economies on the global stage, the United States has reiterated its belief that countries may choose the partners and groupings with whom they associate.

This follows an announcement by BRICS that it decided to invite 6 countries including Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, the UAE and Argentina to join the bloc.

Their membership will take effect in January 2024.

As President Cyril Ramaphosa attempted to allay fears ahead of the 15th annual Brics summit, America was watching.

The US has continued to keep a keen eye on Johannesburg, including the evolution of the developing world as Ramaphosa presented BRICS 3.0 to the world on Thursday.

In a short response to Eyewitness News, a spokesperson for the US Department of State said the superpower would continue working with its partners and allies in bilateral, regional and multilateral fora.

This to strengthen shared prosperity and uphold global peace and security.

This while some BRICS nations have raised concern over the dominance of the superpower, claiming that their mission was to make the geo-political and economic space fairer and more transparent.
