SuperSport United news: Defender departs and replacement ready!

SuperSport United’s latest news is here, as a defender departs while a replacement is already being lined up. SuperSport has bid farewell to young defender Keegan Allan as they gear up for the upcoming 2024/2025 DStv Premiership season. The 23-year-old’s departure follows that of veteran centre-back Siyanda Xulu. Who is leaving upon the expiry of his contract on June 30.

Allan’s surprising departure

Keegan Allan’s exit comes as a surprise, considering he joined SuperSport in January 2023 on a free transfer from Moroka Swallows. The South African junior international left Swallows amidst salary disputes. Which led to the team boycotting league matches in December last year against Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns.

During his brief tenure at SuperSport, Allan made 11 appearances across various competitions. Proving his mettle in the heart of the defence in a short space of time . Before joining SuperSport, Allan played 10 matches for Moroka Swallows, establishing himself as a key player for the Dube Birds.

SuperSport United news: Departure details

Despite signing a short-term deal with an option to extend, Allan and SuperSport United mutually agreed to part ways. With indications that he hasn’t returned to the club as pre-season preparations begin across the Premier Soccer League.

SuperSport United, under the guidance of coach Gavin Hunt, are aiming to bounce back from a disappointing seventh-place finish last season. The team won 11 matches, drew 11, and lost eight in 30 games. Amassing 44 points but missing out on CAF Interclubs competitions after their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup ended in the group stages.

Pursuit of Rushwin Dortley

With Allan and Xulu leaving, SuperSport United is intensifying their pursuit of Rushwin Dortley, a highly-regarded defender also sought after by Stellenbosch FC. Dortley recently captained and scored in Bafana Bafana’s 2024 COSAFA Cup opener. He has reportedly become a priority for Steve Barker’s side. Despite an initial bid being rejected, speculation is rife, fueled by Hunt’s admiration. Which could potentially escalate efforts to secure his signature.

Transfer dynamics

The potential move for Rushwin Dortley hinges on the transfer activities of SuperSport players Shandre Campbell and Keagan Johannes. Both talented players are linked with transfers to European clubs and Orlando Pirates respectively. Should either Campbell or Johannes secure moves abroad or locally, it could pave the way for SuperSport to finalise the acquisition of Dortley, enhancing their defensive capabilities for the upcoming season. These transfers could potentially have a domino effect on other movements too.
