For former Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Nqaba Bhanga, the violence in Palestine is a dark reminder of the time when he was 8 years old and watched apartheid soldiers come into South African townships to “kill [his] brothers and sisters”.

Bhanga, a former member of the DA, believes a small gesture goes a long way and therefore decided to spend five hours a day cycling through different neighbourhoods in the metro carrying a Palestinian flag and cardboard sign with the words “Free Palestine” inscribed on it.

Bhanga says he can’t sit and watch a match when he should be a part of the fight.
