Neil Phillips has seen his bid to travel to SA blocked by a US judge.

A US judge has denied a bid from hedge fund manager Neil Phillips to travel to South Africa to see his children amid an appeal against a conviction in a foreign exchange case.

South African-born Phillips, the co-founder of Glen Point Capital, was found guilty in October of a scheme to manipulate the rand-dollar exchange rate to trigger a US$20 million (about R250 million at the time) payout.

He had bet Cyril Ramaphosa’s election as ANC leader over Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma in late 2017 would boost the local currency.
