Over the last 18 years, Fanie Liebenberg and his wife, Loraine, regularly went to their holiday house in St Helena Bay.
It was about 100 metres away from the iconic Shelley Point Hotel and Spa, which went up in flames on Tuesday – the first blaze they witnessed since they bought the property.
