Load shedding, rising electricity tariffs and financing solutions could see rooftop solar PV installations double to roughly 10GW by the end of 2030, according to a new market intelligence report by GreenCape.

The nonprofit organisation promotes the adoption of green or sustainable economic solutions across South Africa. In its Energy Services Market Intelligence Report for 2024, GreenCape noted that from the start of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023, solar PV installations for households and businesses increased from 2.1GW to 3.2GW. From a market value perspective – this is a growth of 52% to R41.6 billion.

“It is expected that the installed capacity will increase to 10GW with a market value of R130 billion,” the report read.
