In the past five years, more than five million police case dockets have been closed without result, because of a lack of leads.

This is according to a South African Police Service (SAPS) response to a parliamentary question posed by DA MP Ockert Stefanus Terblanche.

In March, Terblanche asked Police Minister Bheki Cele for the number of cases closed due to a lack of leads and the number of dockets lost or stolen in the past five financial years.
