After an 18-month testing period, the City of Cape Town is ready to roll out a cheaper meter for residents to feed in power to the grid.

The first order has been placed after a two-year process, Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis told News24 on Wednesday.

Finding an affordable AMI meter, as it is known, has been one of the challenges residents raised with the city in order to feed back power to the grid from their solar PV systems.
