In a deadly case of mistaken identity, bullets which killed Armand Swart, a Vereeniging man gunned down in a hit outside his workplace two weeks ago, were meant for a colleague.

News24 can reveal a trio of alleged hitmen, among them a veteran Johannesburg police detective, misidentified Swart and missed the actual target by just moments.

The father of two was behind the wheel of his bakkie, waiting for the gate to open at work, when a car pulled up alongside his and gunmen pumped 23 bullets into the cab. Swart died in his seat.
