Education officials in KwaZulu-Natal say the contracts of at least 27 employees working as deputy directors, assistant directors and administration clerks in the national school nutrition programme (NSNP) will not be renewed.

The affected workers have been on contract with the KZN education department for five years.

They were responsible for the delivery of meals to schools, processing payment claims from service providers, as well as developing the menu and ensuring compliance with health standards.
