Twenty-four days before the highly contested national and provincial elections, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC), Mosotho Moepya, said it would “ensure that these elections can never be stolen”.

He was on Sunday addressing a “national day of prayer” at the Grace Bible Church, Soweto, which was organised by the South African Council of Churches, during which clergy from several churches prayed for peaceful and fair elections.

Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, the president of the South African Council of Churches, preached about “radical love”.
