Various hiking trails in Cape Point, as well as the Back Table and Skeleton Gorge on Table Mountain, have been closed following a fire just above Skeleton Gorge and the Hely-Hutchinson Reservoir.

According to Table Mountain National Park (TMNP), several fires have been reported as a result of lightning strikes in multiple areas including Cecilia Forest, Silvermine, and the main road in Cape Point, which was contained on Saturday.

TMNP spokesperson Lauren Howard Clayton said that the response from TMNP’s NCC Environmental Services, along with Volunteer Wildfire Services, Working on Fire crews and the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, played a crucial role in managing the situation.
