A group of miners wearing balaclavas are allegedly keeping their colleagues, including 70 senior workers and contractors, underground at Gold One Modder East Operations in Springs, Gauteng.

The mine’s head of legal, Ziyaad Hassam, said a group of workers who reported for night shift duty on Thursday were taken underground against their will.

Hassam claimed that the incident took place around 19:00.
