Shares in Gold Fields fell by 5% on Tuesday after it said weather-related and other operational stoppages helped cost it about a fifth of its gold production during its first quarter.

Attributable production fell 18% year on year and 22% quarter on quarter to 464 000 ounces to end-March, the group said on Tuesday. The lower production volumes helped to push its all-in cost (AIC) by 58% year on year, and almost a third quarter on quarter, to $2 115 per ounce. The gold price is currently just higher than $2 300 per ounce.
