The Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court has sentenced convicted fraudster Swereen Govender to an effective 15-year direct imprisonment after she swindled more than R18 million from investors.

Govender, 57, was convicted after she pleaded guilty to 15 counts of fraud on 16 March. She was arrested on 7 October 2022 after she became a fugitive from justice.

She was arrested at a lodge on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Durban, where she was found in the kitchen, apparently working.
