Eskom is taking Johannesburg’s City Power to court for defaulting on its payments to the tune of more than R1 billion.

In a statement on Monday, Eskom said it had no choice but to approach the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg to force City Power to pay.

Eskom has rejected the dispute declaration by City Power regarding potential overbilling on bulk purchase invoices dating back to 2021.

The matter has been set for 4 June.
