A teacher, who was fired from Curro Vanderbijlpark in Johannesburg in March 2023 for telling a pupil to stop laughing “like an idiot”, has described her dismissal as “utterly unfair”.
Kavitha Reddy, who was the head of life sciences at the school, was speaking publicly about the incident for the first time.
She was charged with gross misconduct which related to “conduct unbecoming of an educator” after the incident in a Grade 11 class on 16 February 2023, which occurred in the presence of other pupils.
