When Northern Cape residents arrived at the Batlharos Sports Ground, where President Cyril Ramaphosa held an imbizo on Thursday, they were each welcomed with a food parcel.

The meal of the day – an apple, juice, water, snack bar, sandwich, quarter chicken, artchar and two bread rolls – was prepared for more than 15 000 people attending the presidential imbizo at the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality.

On Wednesday, when News24 visited the community, some residents confirmed that local ANC leaders had promised them food parcels if they attended the imbizo.
