Former liberation movement Azapo says the vandalism of Steve Biko’s grave in Qonce on Friday was tantamount to harassing the black consciousness icon from “beyond the grave”.

Azapo, which Biko was affiliated to, called on the Buffalo City Metro to provide security at Biko’s gravesite near Ginsberg in Qonce (formerly King William’s Town), after a chain and bronze fists were stolen from the grave and sold to a local scrap metal dealer for R190.

The incident was believed to have taken place on Friday, according to Eastern Cape police, who have since arrested a suspect.
