A council meeting scheduled to elect a new mayor of Ekurhuleni was cancelled on Wednesday night because the ANC and the EFF could not agree on the executive council positions.

Cracks in the coalition were laid bare on 29 February during a physical brawl in the council related to the motion of no confidence in the former mayor, Sivuyile Ngodwana, of the AIC.

Before fists began flying, the ANC told the council that they would vote the mayor out if they could amend the motion to say that the party with the most members could decide on which seats they wanted to occupy.
