Monday, 6 May 2024 marks 40 consecutive days without load shedding – and also the longest streak since the pandemic – and it’s not because Eskom’s burning more diesel, said Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.

The minister on Monday briefed the media on the progress of the Energy Action Plan, where he celebrated the 40-day milestone – crediting Eskom’s leadership and engineering team for ensuring plants are performing better.

This is the longest period without load shedding in about three years. Over the festive season (15 December 2023 to 2 January 2024) the country experienced 18 days without load shedding, following a 20-day streak in the winter of 2022.
