Kaizer Chiefs’ Shabalala has an appetite for more goals

Having broken his goal scoring duck for the season by netting the winner against SuperSport United last Saturday, Mduduzi Shabalala’s appetite for goals has only increased.

“It’s a great feeling. because I have been desperately wanting to score goals to help the team. It has really boosted my confidence and increased my hunger to score more goals,” the 20-year-old told the official Kaizer Chiefs website.

Kaizer Chiefs have only scored 21 goals this season (in 25 matches).

Only three teams in the 16-team league has found the back of the net on fewer occasions.

Champions

The Glamour Boys are preparing to host Mamelodi Sundowns in a DStv Premiership blockbuster clash at the FNB Stadium on Thursday, 2 May.

Kick-off is at 19:30.

If Mamelodi Sundowns win the match, they will be crowned champions with six matches to spare.

It would represent a seventh consecutive league title for Masandawana and a 14th overall since the PSL’s professional era kicked off in the 1996/1997 season.

Naturally, this is a feat that Kaizer Chiefs will be determined to prevent from being achieved against them in their own backyard.

“It’s always a tough match. Everybody knows that they are log leaders at the moment, but it’s really all about us. We are going to have to execute our game-plan, and when we get opportunities, we have to be clinical. We want to stop them from winning the league in ‘our house’,” Shabalala stated, before shifting the emphasis towards what his own team can achieve as opposed to who else they can try to stop.

“In the last five games this season we are still looking to qualify for a CAF spot,” Mduduzi Shabalala added.

“Our aim is to get back to where we belong as Kaizer Chiefs, at the top.

“I would love to see a lot of our fans come out to support us for this big game on Thursday,” Shabalala said.

“It helps us a lot when they are giving us encouragement. They want the best for us and we want to make them happy and proud of us.”

Tickets for the game are on sale through TicketPro online at www.ticketpros.co.za or Spar and Boxer Supermarkets, PostNet, Shell and Sasol filling stations at R60 per ticket.
