Kaizer Chiefs’ 4-goal star sends warning to Sundowns

The DStv Premiership will offer another match we can’t miss. It’s Kaizer Chiefs vs Mamelodi Sudowns at the FNB Stadium. Here are some pre-match thoughts from Pule Mmodi and Given Msimango.

DSTV PREMIERSHIP: KAIZER CHIEFS VS MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

Tonight’s game is not like other matches. The champions Sundowns need three points to seal a record seventh DStv Premiership title in a row.

Speaking to the media before tonight’s game at 19:30, Mmodi, who has delivered four goals for Kaizer Chiefs this season, believes last weekend’s 2-1 win over SuperSport United will make Amakhosi dangerous.

“I think the mood was good [in the past week at training]… coming from a win against SuperSport, and I think we are motivated to play Sundowns,” Mmodi said, as quoted by the Citizen.

“They have the best record in the league and we are willing to destroy that history. I think the only way to beat them is to all give our best on Thursday, so that we can get the three points … we need the points to stay in the top eight,” the Kaizer Chiefs attacker added.

LOW SCORING

The former Uthongathi and Golden Arrows star also took a moment to chat about his club and his individual low-scoring record. Kaizer Chiefs have only scored two goals in five matches, with Mmodi’s last goal coming in September last year against Polokwane City.

“If we can capitalise on the chances we always get in games …. everything will be ok. For me, it has been a long time not scoring, but if I am not scoring, it is better for me to give an assist to another player. It has been frustrating me [not scoring] … but I think I will fix it,” the Kaizer Chiefs winger concluded.

Mmodi’s teammate, Given Msimango, said that Amakhosi are only focused on themselves, rather Sundowns.

“We will make the game as competitive as possible. We are not too focused on Sundowns because here the most important thing is to get maximum points for our club,” Msimango said via the Sowetan. “We will try to control what happens on the pitch and ignore everything else…take it as a background noise [referring to Sundowns’ title talks].

“Of course, the team has gone through a bad run, struggling to win even though our performances had been up to par.

“The win against SuperSport just reassured us of what we are capable of…it was a good confidence booster and a much-needed win for us and for our supporters,” the Kaizer Chiefs central defender concluded.
