James Marsden could return as X-Men’s Cyclops in Deadpool 3

Deadpool 3 could bring some of the old X-Men cast including James Marsden, who played Cyclops.

Marsden played Cyclops in the original X-Men movies in the early 2000s, long before Marvel Studios launched its cinematic universe that has become a global success in the past 10 years.

The 50-year-old starred in the X-Men film series (2000–2014) as Scott Summers(Cyclops) but his screen time steadily diminished after the second X-Men film and in “The Last Stand“, he was accidentally killed by Jean Grey.

His final appearance was merely a cameo in X-Men: Days of Future Past

Marsden said he was open to returning as Scott Summers.

In his interview with Screen Rant, the actor said he was interested in reprising his role.

Marsden could return as Cyclops next year

“I have been too! I have seen it too. I’m watching those headlines as a fan as well. That’d be fun. I’ve been doing it for almost 30 years and it’s very rare to say that you’ve had experiences like the first X-Men. We did three of them, I was part of three of them, and you become a family,” Marsden added.

“You really do love these characters, the cast, the crew, everybody — and the same thing’s happening on this film, which is kind of bringing back memories of that experience. So I would always be open to that, revisiting that world.”

SCOTT SUMMERS WAS A FAN FAVOURITE ALONGSIDE JEAN GREY

Mardsen did not make an appearance on Logan, which was seen as the end of the original X-Men Cinematic Universe

He and the other X-Men characters were presumed to be dead after Xavier’s psychic powers had begun to degenerate as told in the Logan film.

If the MCU chooses to re-explore the original X-Men universe, there is a huge possibility that Marsden might return. Spider-Man: No Way Home managed to bring back dead villains from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy through Doctor Strange’s magic.

With Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine teamming up, Marsden and other old X-Men cast could reunite.

“Sure. Yeah, I mean, I’m all about material, and what the story is, and what the character would be doing, but it’s a character that I played and it’s very close to my heart. And that family, I miss it dearly. We created a very special thing with the first couple of ‘X-Men’ movies and yeah, I’d love to explore that. But you know, [I] would want to see what that looks like first, I guess,” he said.
