How to watch the WSL this weekend

The Women’s Super League continues this weekend with three derbies being played.

Manchester City welcome neighbours Manchester United to Etihad Stadium in a game you can watch live on BBC One and iPlayer, with Gareth Taylor’s side looking to keep their title hopes on track.

Across the North West, Everton host Liverpool in the Merseyside derby, while West Ham host London rivals and WSL leaders Chelsea.

Here is how you can watch every Women’s Super League game this weekend.

All kick-off times are GMT

Manchester City v Manchester United – Saturday 12:30 – BBC One and BBC iPlayer

Manchester City kept pace with reigning champions Chelsea at the top of the table last week with a comprehensive win at Brighton. Gareth Taylor’s side put their double cup disappointment firmly behind them to record a 10th consecutive league win to keep them level on points with Chelsea.

As they will play before their title rivals this weekend, City have the opportunity to strike another psychological blow in the title race.

Having lost the reverse fixture in front of a record crowd at Old Trafford, Manchester United will be seeking revenge and cross-city bragging rights.

Mark Skinner’s side sit fourth in the table but with Liverpool breathing down their necks in fifth place, there is little room for error in what remains of the campaign.

Everton v Liverpool – Sunday 13:00 – FA Player

Matt Beard says his Liverpool side are “enjoying the moment” as they aim to break up the established ‘big four’ this season.

The Reds had a comfortable win at home over West Ham last time out to stay level on points with Manchester United.

Hosts Everton head into the Merseyside derby on the back of another disappointing result. A late fightback could not prevent them losing to fellow strugglers Aston Villa last week.

The Toffees have struggled for form this season, particularly at home, however their win in the reverse fixture at Anfield provides cause for optimism.

Bristol City v Tottenham Hotspur – Sunday 14:00 – FA Player

At bottom of the table, Bristol City are fast running out of games to save their WSL status, with their home matches taking on extra significance in their battle to survive the drop.

Lauren Smith’s side have won just once in the league all season and face Tottenham after another defeat away by Manchester United last time out.

Spurs continued riding their recent wave of optimism by narrowly beating Leicester City last week in what was an intriguing dress rehearsal for next month’s FA Cup semi-final.

Robert Vilahamn’s side have struggled in the league since the turn of the year, so a second successive WSL win at Ashton Gate would be a welcome boost.

Leicester City v Brighton & Hove Albion – Sunday 15:00 – FA Player

After the high of reaching a first FA Cup semi-final a fortnight ago, Leicester came down to earth with a bit of a bump last week, losing away to Tottenham in a hard-fought clash.

The Foxes face the prospect of a third league game without a win if they cannot rediscover their form this week.

Visitors Brighton head into the game at King Power Stadium having suffered a heavy home defeat by Man City last week. The Seagulls have endured a tough campaign, for the most part battling the prospect of relegation.

Interim coach Mikey Harris said after that defeat his side need to “pull everything together” in a performance. This game marks an ideal opportunity to do just that and, in doing so, they would surely secure their top-flight status for another year.

West Ham United v Chelsea – Sunday 16:30 – Sky Sports

West Ham have had little to cheer in the WSL this season, with poor form placing them just one place and six points above the relegation zone.

Rehanne Skinner’s side have particularly struggled for goals, with wayward finishing proving their undoing yet again away to a high-flying, efficient Liverpool last weekend.

Champions Chelsea head across the capital in totally contrasting form. An emphatic win over title rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge last week pushed them another step closer to a historic quadruple.

Emma Hayes’ side continue to lead the way in the title race but with Manchester City putting their full force into a title charge, only a win will do in east London.

Aston Villa v Arsenal – Sunday 18:45 – FA Player

Aston Villa produced an impressive away win at Everton last time out, showing defensive steel to hold off a late fightback and take all three points.

It has been a tough campaign blighted by the threat of relegation for Carla Ward’s side, yet another win this weekend would likely allay those fears for once and for all.

Arsenal captain Kim Little conceded that the side’s title hopes had “slipped away slightly” after their loss at Stamford Bridge last Friday. The result left the Gunners six points adrift of Man City and Chelsea at the top of the table with a much inferior goal difference.

Jonas Eidevall’s team could be cut further adrift by the time they head to the midlands, with Manchester City and Chelsea set to play before them this weekend. However, should results go their way, a big win at Bescott Stadium would put them firmly in the hat for the title once again.
