From Seven Stars to Man U: The inspiring story of Benni McCarthy

Benedict Saul McCarthy – affectionately known as Benni McCarthy, is a celebrated South African coach and former footballer.

Benni McCarthy is arguably one of the most successful and decorated South African footballers.

No doubt he has a cabinet full of silverware to show for it. He boasts eight European titles, three local titles and eight individual accolades as a player.

THE INSPIRING STORY OF BENNI MCCARTHY

The 45-year-old football gaffer was born in Cape Town and grew up in the Cape Flats in Hanover Park. He started his professional footballing career at 17 with Seven Stars.

Footballing Career

With a career spanning years as a footballer, McCarthy managed to star for several teams, which include:

  • Seven Stars
  • Ajax
  • Celta Vigo
  • Porto
  • Blackburn Rovers
  • West Ham United
  • Orlando Pirates
  • Whitehill Welfare

His thrust into the limelight came from his stint with Ajax. During 2003-2004, he went down in the history book of the Champions League after Porto won the UEFA Champions League under Jose Mourinho.

After hanging his boots, he switched the floor to coaching and has since become one of the best in his own right.

Coaching Career

Back home, he managed to bring back lost glory for AmaZulu and Cape Town City. Benni McCarthy is part of the coaching team of European giants Manchester United.

However, he has managed to keep his private life under wraps. In recent years he has been spotted driving some of the finest cars the world can offer, which include:

However, little is known if some of these cars are still part of his fleet. With a career spanning years in Europe, Benni McCarthy has blessed himself with dotted around Europe and South Africa.
