FOUR Orlando Pirates stars walking a suspension tightrope

Orlando Pirates are preparing for another clash with Chippa and four of their players are one booking away from an automatic suspension.

Bandile Shandu, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Thabang Monare and Thalente Mbatha are all on three accumulated yellows for the season. Bookings against Chippa on Wednesday would rule them out of Pirates’ clash with Richards Bay next weekend.

PIRATES GOING FOR THE DOUBLE-DOUBLE

The Buccaneers have become cup specialists under Jose Riveiro. They’ve won consecutive MTN8 crowns and are just a single match away from making it a double-double by scooping Nedbank Cup glory in 2024. The Sea Robbers are also embroiled in a race for a top-two finish in the league, facing stern competition from an impressive Stellenbosch team. Stellies lead Pirates by three points with four matches to play in the DStv Premiership season. Both are in action on Wednesday 8 May at 19:30. Pirates host Chippa while Stellenbosch welcomes AmaZulu to the winelands.

Rumour roundup

According to SoccerLaduma, AmaZulu is closing in on the signing of rumoured Chiefs and Pirates target Shaune Mogaila. The Royal AM man has made 15 appearances in the league this season with two assists. In February, we reported interest from Orlando Pirates:

“Versatile former Royal AM wide player Shaune Mogaila is now available on a free transfer, and he’s been a target for the Buccaneers for some time. According to FARPost, Pirates aren’t the only side showing an interest. Mogaila can operate on either flank of attack or defence, making him a priceless option. Although not a direct replacement, he’d be a great squad player,”

Pirates to keep hold of Golden Boot contender Mabasa?

According to iDiski Times, newly-crowned Romanian champions FCSB have dropped their interest in Tshegofatso Mabasa. The 27-year-old striker has 13 goals in the league this term (in just 22 appearances) and is in the thick of the race for the Golden Boot. Only Stellenbosch attacker Iqraam Rayners (14) has more goals this term.

“According to information received by this publication, FCSB made a list of 12 players they were looking at, including Mabasa. However, a close source to the club confirmed that the number has been cut down and Mabasa’s name is no longer on the list. FCSB want to strengthen their team for the upcoming season, as they will be taking part in the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round after ending their nine-year trophy drought in the league,” wrote the publication.
