‘Felt like I failed the world’: Musa Motha reflects on losing ‘BGT’

South African born dancer Musa Motha left people across the world with teary eyes following his final performance on British talent show, Britain’s Got Talent. The 27-year-old amputee loss the prize to comedian Viggo Venn who walked away with the £250,000 (over R5 million) prize. Heading online, Musa shared a heartbreaking post about losing the competition.

According to him, it felt as though he had failed the world — he also said that he had avoided going on social media because he was afraid of what people were saying.

Musa Motha opens up about losing ‘BGT’

South Africans were swelled with pride after seeing Musa Motha on the Britain’s Got Talent stage despite having only one leg.

The young dancer lost his leg when he was only eight years old. Despite this, he courageously pursued a career in dance.

On Sunday 4 June, Musa was one of 10 finalists who competed for the grand prize on the talent show but unfortunately his performance was not enough to secure the public vote.

His loss outraged many of his fans who had slammed the judges and promised to boycott the show. Musa himself was also naturally disappointed.

Mission complete

Heading to Instagram, he opened up about how losing the talent show made him feel like a big disappointment.

“In life we focus more on the future and don’t realise we are in the middle of what we prayed for. Just last night I was avoiding to check my socials because I felt like I have failed the world by not winning the Britain’s Got Talent even not making it to the top 3/2,” he wrote.

He then went on to add that he is grateful that he got so far and touched so many hearts. He also thanked BGT for the opportunity.

“But then I have realised how blessed I am to have reach so many hearts and my mission is complete.

“Thank you to Britain’s Got Talent for the opportunity. And guess what? Today we won an award for the Emerging Artist. Thank you National Dance Awards for this beautiful award and recognition,” he wrote.
