European team ditches deal for Orlando Pirates superstar

Orlando Pirates might be holding on to a few of their superstars for at least one more transfer window.

Mabasa might be staying at Orlando Pirates

According to iDiski Times FCSB has dropped their interest in Tshegofatso Mabasa. The 27-year-old striker has 13 goals in the league this term (in just 22 appearances) and is in the thick of the race for the Golden Boot. Only Stellenbosch attacker Iqraam Rayners (4) has more goals this term.

“According to information received by this publication, FCSB made a list of 12 players they were looking at, including Mabasa. However, a close source to the club confirmed that the number has been cut down and Mabasa’s name is no longer on the list. FCSB want to strengthen their team for the upcoming season, as they will be taking part in the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round after ending their nine-year trophy drought in the league,” wrote the publication.

Riveiro’s boys are hitting form when it matters

Pirates have leaned heavily on the goal-scoring form of Tshegofatso Mabasa and, to a lesser extent, Patrick Maswanganyi this term. Both weren’t on the score sheet against Chippa in the Nedbank Cup semi-final win, but that wasn’t a problem. Kabelo Dlamini, another man having a stellar season, scored a brace and central defender Tapelo Xoki also grabbed himself a goal. Mabasa’s 13 league goals go alongside three goals and two assists in four Nedbank Cup appearances. To say he’s the man of the moment is an understatement.

Magical Maswanganyi

Patrick Maswanganyi has played a stellar supporting role in the number 10 position, scoring five goals and supplying five assists in the league. Three goals and three assists in four Nedbank Cup appearances make him arguably the tournament’s best player this term. Sundowns are the final barrier between them and the riches of Nedbank Cup glory. They’ll land R7 Million if they win it. Next up in the DStv Premiership is a home clash with Chippa, on Wednesday 8 May at 19:30.
