BREAKING: Kaizer Chiefs make BIG Cavin Johnson decision!

Kaizer Chiefs have made a huge decision on the future of their Head of Youth Development Cavin Johnson.

Chiefs initially appointed Johnson in the above portfolio in September last year, before he became interim coach.

Johnson was asked to steady the ship after Chiefs parted ways with Molefi Ntseki as head coach. But a dismal run that saw Amakhosi finish outside the top eight has seemingly led to his dismissal at the club. In a statement, the club thanked him for his service and confirmed his departure.

Chiefs part ways with Johnson

“Kaizer Chiefs have agreed to an amicable parting of ways with head of Academy, Cavin Johnson.Johnson joined Amakhosi in September 2023 to take up his role at the Club. The departure is part of the restructuring process that the Club is undertaking. We wish to thank Mr Johnson for his contribution to Kaizer Chiefs and wish him well in the future.” Read a short statement from the club’s website.

This decision comes as contrary to what was reported last week. Indications were that Chiefs were going to allow Johnson to return to his role at the club’s academy. But perhaps, the damage caused by his tenure with the senior team was too much for the brand to swallow and they couldn’t deploy him.

In the end, things went from bad to worse instead, under Johnson at Chiefs. He led the club to its most losses in a year and also the lowest league finish in their history, 10th! That feat had Chiefs fans baying for blood and wanting the experienced campaigner removed from the club completely. This even after the club confirmed he would be not get the head coach role.

Not retained as Head of Youth Development

It then seems as if Chiefs lost the belief that Johnson can still be an asset to their youngsters either.  What do you think about this, Khosi fans? Leave a comment below!
