Bradley Grobler: A goal scorer for all seasons

Bradley Grobler has become the first player to score 10 goals or more in a PSL season on five occasions.

Grobler, now 36, reached double figures this season when he found the back of the net for SuperSport United against Sekhukhune United earlier in the week.

Grobler’s five seasons of scoring 10 goals or more have been 2010/2011 (for Platinum Stars) and 2019/2020, 2020/2021, 2022/23 and now 2023/24 (all for SuperSport United).

He also won the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award and the league’s top scorer in the 2020/2021 season.

Two matches for Bafana Bafana

Grobler was born on 25 January 1988.

He is the son of former Moroka Swallows player Les Grobler.

He attended Benoni High School and plied his trade as a junior at both Boksburg FC and BK Callies just outside Johannesburg.

Grobler started his professional football career at Platinum Stars in 2007.

After a four-year stint at the club, he moved to Turkish second division side Göztepe A.Ş. on 26 August 2011. He was then Göztepe’s most expensive signing ever.

On 26 June 2012, Grobler joined PSL side Ajax Cape Town on a four-year deal.

However, after just 12 appearances for the Cape Town side, he left to join Matsatsantsa in 2013 and has gone on to play over 300 matches for the club.

Grobler has also represented Bafana Bafana on 12 occasions and scored one of his two goals for South Africa on his international debut against Zimbabwe on 15 November 2011.

In the race for this season’s Golden Boot award, Grobler lies in a tie for fourth, five goals behind leader Tshegofatso Mabasa with just a handful of matches remaining.
